Kieren Moore: Wiradjuri Artist

Yaama, I’m Kieren

I am a proud Wiradjuri man. My mob were originally from Boganbilla, although I now live on Gadigal, Jarowair and Western Wakka Wakka land. I’ve always felt deeply connected to the land and love being out on country.

I only discovered my passion for art as an adult. When I started painting I was terrible! But I kept experimenting until I found my style. Creating art is my way of connecting with country. I enjoy painting about my family, the land, and local histories. Many of my pieces feature a gugaa (goanna), which is my mob’s totem.

Educating the next generation

I am a primary school teacher and believe educating future generations about Australia’s First Nations history is critical for reconciliation. I love teaching students about Indigenous art and have painted a mural at my school.

Hey, I’m Chloe

I am an artist, lawyer-in-training, and mother to three beautiful Wiradjuri girls. I want my daughters to be proud of their Aboriginal heritage. My love of art developed from a young age. When Kieren started painting, I was so excited! We would often sit and paint together at the dining table until one day, it occurred to us… we should collaborate. Thus, Yurali Collective was born!

Becoming an ally

I am a proud ally. As part of my law degree, I researched First Nations politics extensively. I’m dedicated to promoting Indigenous voices. I am currently working pro-bono with the Traditional Owners of a local sacred site to help establish their tourism business.

Stronger together

Yurali Collective is all about family. I love painting with my husband. Our styles are very different, yet still complementary. We are constantly learning from each other, growing as artists and individuals. For us, that’s reconciliation.
